  1. Well, problem is that PCs are “open hardwares” while consoles are “closed hardwares” so, games like Skyrim usually have less issues on PC compared to the ones on consoles, which are problematic for different reasons…
    Indeed, on 360, players are having lots of other problems like very low res textures when the game is installed, for example (and that’s absurd, given that installation should improve the textures loading and stuff like that O_O)… but even they are having the very same problem of the PS3 players, which means the game’s code was flawed from the beginning (because based on the previous games like New Vegas) and they’ve not been able to optimize it: Bethesda programmers (designers, etc) can say whatever they want, but after they said and promised for months that both games on PS3 and 360 would have been equal and even perfect, well… the usual (and overused) statement about the memory allocation problem is just an unforgivable excuse.
    Everytime a game is released, it always has lots of issues, but they don’t care because we live in the damn patches era… but if they’re not able to address those issues, the fact remains that we already wasted 70€ for an unplayable game: that’s what I really cannot stand! 🙁

  2. There’s an article floating around on the whole New Vegas/Skyrim situation too, interviews the lead designer for NV too.

    It basically said the tech/engine used will always be a problem for the PS3 to run since how it divides it’s memory when compared to how 360/PC does it.

    That’s probably what pisses me off the most about the whole thing. It is not new news to anyone who has worked with Bethesda’s stuff, but yet Bethesda hasn’t bothered to try to remedy it and 3 games in still continues to sell their product in it’s current state to PS3 owners..

  3. Well, as soon as the game was released, the patch (2.0) was already available: that only means Bethesda already knew about the game’s issues, but they released it within the date, anyway. And despite the patch, nothing has changed…
    What really pisses me off is the fact that Bethesda will never be able to fix these problems in its games if they don’t understand they must absolutely change the data streaming system and everything related to the graphic engine: indeed, it’s not a case that Skyrim has the very same problems already seen in New Vegas. Think that I even had to sell back that game because, despite all patches released, it was impossible entering the main zone of New Vegas (the one where there’s the Lucky 38 casino) and so it was impossible going on with the main story and its missions (not to mention all the times the game froze just trying to enter a simple shed)…
    Modifying or improving the graphic engine performances is useless if basically the engine/system itself is affected by those issues and starts to be obsolete: doing so, things can only get worse in every new game, and it’ll be more and more difficult to solve that kind of problems…
    Honestly, I’m starting to be really tired of these so called “next generation games”: the more complex they are, the more issues they have…
    If you think about it, everytime a new game’s out, we don’t even have the time to start playing it that we already have to download a bunch of patches and bullshits like that: it’s a matter of fact they’re only bringing a lot of bugs and very little fun, by now! 🙁

  4. Yeek, i’ve never been so glad I waited to buy Skyrim 🙁
    Some of the horror stories i’ve heard about how it runs on PS3 are a bit.. well.. horrific lol.

    Really hope they can get it sorted out soon, not daring to buy/play it is starting to get to me

    @OPTIMUS lol of course would you expect anything else?
    Even though I am one of the people that are suffering from the framerate disaster, I still enjoy the game. I just hope they fix it pretty soon. My Khajiit demands it!

    Yeah, it’s a really bad thing!
    My save file is over 12MB and I’m not having very serious problems, for now (although sometimes it seems to play New Vegas, especially when you’re wandering around big towns like Whiterun)
    Oh well, at least I’m sure that my Nord is not affected by… freezings 😛

    Thanks OPTIMUS
    Very good info to know, I was actually looking for that information while making this too.
    Btw is it safe to go right to the edge with HD backgrounds?

    No problem, mate! 😀

    Yep! You can safely go right to the edge with HD backgrounds: well, actually you MUST go right 😛 that’s because the info bar precisely starts from there (it’s quite hard that a HD screen cuts off part of an image specifically made for it, unless the user has set particular displaying parameters…)

    Instead, you have to pay attention with the SD backgrounds because, even if the size is 640×480, the PS3 tends to cut off a portion of the image… so, the size of the background that is actually displayed is 600×450.
    That’s why I always make a black background of 640×480, and then I put into it the real background of 600×450: this way, the black borders are cut off, but the SD background is correctly displayed… 😉

    @OPTIMUS Hey man, how is it going?

    Hey friend! Glad to hear you!
    Well, it might be better… but I’m still here, right? So, let’s say it’s not bad, after all: I’m fine, mate, thanks! 😀

    BTW, where have you been?
    Lost in Skyrim…? 😛

  9. Okay, just uploaded an HD version of this where the DiRT3 logo should hopefully fit propperly.

    Also did seperate HD and SD themes this time so I could put more backgrounds into them, still could only fit 14 into HD one with the new 15mb limit though 😛

  10. Thanks OPTIMUS 😀

  11. Nice theme, mate!

    Uh! Time ago I had the same problem because my HDTV’s gone wrecked when I moved to the new house 🙁
    So… if it can help you, the info bar for HD should have the following dimensions:

    Lenght = 600 pixels
    Height = 100 pixels

    Also, the distance from the upper board of the background should be of 68 pixels. 😀
