I can't really think of an idea for a new theme so, I'm wondering if I can edit an existing theme that I have uploaded to the site. If so, then would I delete the existing theme on the site and upload the new one, or would I leave the theme up on the site and name the new one ver. 2?

You can definitely update a theme. I do it all the time 
If you want it to be version 2, that's up to you. If you UPDATE it you'll keep all the comments, likes, views. If you REPLACE the old theme it will be like a brand new theme - no comments, no likes, no views. When uploading, in the description state if it's an UPDATE or a REPLACEMENT. The admin will hook you up

I wish I'd seen that earlier I updated a couple themes by using the Ultra Slide Show Lite, because it's more stable and has 3 more picture that can be added into the theme.
