every time i try to build a theme is says "an error has occured" can someone please help asap

Unfortunately, PS3 Theme Builder is quite "generic" when it comes to some error while building a theme... 
Anyway, I suggest you to carefully check the size of the backgrounds and all the icons (included the "Author" one) and see if one of them maybe has a wrong dimension.
Also, if you've put sounds, be sure the amount of bytes doesn't exceed the limit...

It must be something to do with images or sounds like optimus said theres not much more it could be. Try downloading a theme from here unpack and put it through the builder and see if it works.
does it begin to compile or do you get an error straight away? if you accidently saved over an icon for example, and replaced it with a wallpaper it could give an error while compiling. although that only happened to me with very old theme builders so i don't know if it's still an issue.

i was going through the theme builders files and found there was one corrupt so iv redownloaded it and it finally builds the theme
does anyone have the standard icons so i can make my own icons

Hi,
Im getting the same error....i can build the theme im doing and get a p3t file at the end that works (without audio) but the second i add audio and try to create a p3t file the error pops up.
The audio is well within the limits of the PS3 Theme Builder. I used Audacity to merge 3 sound files (robot/metal landing, violent storm and machine gun fire) to create a warzone effect, saved it as a wav file then used MFAudio to covert it to a vag file.
The other question i have is...what does it mean by the following options under sound effects within the theme builder?
Question
Cursor
Open Option menu
Cancel
Ok
I know i can add a sound to each of the above but can someone clarify what actions they're refering to?

You might want to look at the Sound Tutorial I posted a little while back. Following that is a real good way to successfully add sounds.
In a nutshell, basically make every sound around 30kb each, or a grand size total of 150kb per theme. You also have to keep them SHORT. The PS3 won't allow huge 20 second sound files.
Cursor is the sound you hear when navigating the PS3's XMB.
Question is the sound when you select something.
Cancel is the sound you hear when you back out of a sub menu.
Option Menu is when you open up an option menu, like when you're already in Theme Settings and decide to open up the list to select another Theme.
OK is when you hit the PS Button, when you hit the Select Button for Bookmarks in the Browser or when you hit the Circle Button to close the Browser.
