I'm using photoshop. I have my theme all done, how do I make the sides of my icon not show up so you don't see a box. Is there a special way I have to save it after I clear the parts I don't want?

Save it as a .png file and be sure you have the "transparency" option checked.

side note to anyone using Paint Shop Pro 7, (or assumably any other version) you "select" the part you want shown (or for a single "tone" background select that then cntrl+shift+i to invert selection) then choose "Selections" from the top menu, then "save to alpha channel', hit ok (name it anything you want, default is fine, you wont "see" the name again unless you change alpha channels), hit ok again.
